About Us
HCRfm is a community radio
station that has broadcast to the Huntingdon area since 1995 building
up a solid reputation for quality familiar music, community news,
features and active involvement through volunteering.
The station is a not-for-profit organisation, a registered charity and a limited
company. There is a team of directors and senior executives working
alongside a management committee, actively planning the huge
transformation from a two-week a year Restricted Service Licence (RSL)
to round the clock radio.
HCRfm has been awarded a full-time licence to broadcast to a 5Km
radius of Huntingdon so will also be available to many surrounding
towns and villages. We aim to go 'on-air' soon from our purpose built
studios in the Saxongate Centre on Huntingdon High Street.
We are
broadcasting live music, news and features for 24 hours a day from our
studios at Saxongate with plans for additional studios at Wood Green
Animal Shelter in Godmanchester with whom HCR104fm has been long
associated.
A key element of HCRfm’s programme output will be
community focused, including 'Over To You' a weeknight community access
programme at 7pm. There will also be new programmes on the local area
'County Matters', a weekly special Spotlight on Fridays devoted to
music, general events and a programme for younger people.
Students
at local schools and colleges play a central role in programmes and
production with HCRfm and there is a popular training programme. For
information on the HCRfm student team check out The Student Zone.
Throughout
the weekdays from Breakfast to Drive-Time HCRfm will bring music,
features, competitions and news throughout the day. Our national news
will come from the renowned Sky News team and our local news will be
prepared by The Hunts Post, the local Archant Press weekly paper with
whom HCRfm has and will be ever more closely associated with. The station will play 'Quality Familiar Music' i.e. music you instantly recognise and probably know the words to.
HCRfm will play every hour, 2 X 60's, 2 X 70's, 2 X 80's, 2 X 90's and 2
from the 2000's. This gives a good spread of music to all audience
profiles; so there is something for everyone. HCRfm also broadcasts a
wide range of specialist music programmes from the 60’s, “indie”, “folk", musicals and other classics.
A
growing team of 75+ volunteers, all of whom will be CRB checked and go
through further checks with the new Independent Safeguarding Authority,
are beavering away at creating what will be a unique venture for
Huntingdon, - its very own radio station run entirely by local people.
There are a range of roles from presenting, producing to administration, advertising and sponsorship in which you can get involved. We have involved over 400 community groups which makes HCRfm a real community station.
HCR104fm
as a Not for Profit organisation can raise half its income from grants
and donations. Many local people who perhaps can’t physically volunteer
at HCRfm, ask how they can help us? One way is through the Friends of HCRfm,
a support group, with low cost membership for individuals and families
and a corporate membership for businesses and organisations. The rest of
our income is through donations, advertising and
sponsorship; over 60 local businesses who have sponsored programmes or
advertised in the past are keen to support us in the future. This
includes support from Huntingdonshire District Council, Godmanchester
Town Council, Huntingdon Town Council, St Neots Town Council, Total
Computing, Woodgreen Animal Shelters and T-Mobile.
The Team
There are over 70 people dedicated to HCRfm being on air, and if you would like to be one of them then please get involved. Click to read about some of the presenters, volunteers and management.
