Have you broken your New Year’s Resolution already?

One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to get fit and stay fit. Here’s a few ideas for trying to keep this one.

Bounce yourself fit:

Trampolining is becoming one of the most popular. A new craze sweeping the nation is “oxygen free jumping”. Why not consider joining a trampolining club, whether you go as a group or with a partner or take the kids there’s many trampoline parks springing up. It almost impossible to take part in this sport without smiling!  Google for our local clubs.

Be Sociable

Whether you’re a keen cyclist or just fancy having a try why not consider joining the local Sustrans cycling club who meet at the Ambience Café in Riverside Park St Neots and go for a relaxing and not too energetic ride most Sundays. They normally cycle for about 20 miles along easy pathways and always find time for a cuppa along the way. But there are other cycle groups around Huntingdonshire.

Sign up to a Park run or a Town run

Every Saturday morning local Park runs take place; the nearest run to Huntingdon is Hinchingbrooke Park, but there are others in Peterborough and Bedford. These runs are timed 5km and are completely free.  All you have to do is register on line and print out your unique barcode then a log of all your runs and times is kept on your personal Parkrun page. Children aged 4-14 have their own 2km junior Parkrun on Sunday mornings. Details at parkrun.org.uk.  It’s good to run with friends.  The Godmanchester Running Club is an “open” club and meets every Wednesday evening for a run at the Chinese Bridge in Godmanchester at 7pm and every Sunday morning at the White Hart at 9.30am. They welcome anyone who would like to run with them.  Check out their website for details www.businessingodmanchester.co.uk/running-club-godmanchester

Get Walking

A great way to improve your general health and to join friends, chat and take in the scenery. Check out the walks organised by Walking for Health (walkingforhealth.org.uk) or the Ramblers (ramblers.org.uk)

Why not do it yourself?

If you normally meet up with your friends at the pub, why not start catching up with them in a healthier way. Sort out a set time and place each week to do something healthy like join Zumba or Palates classes and get together around a fitness DVD.
