HCRfm and the community

Within weeks Huntingdon will have its own full-time community radio station and there are still many ways you can get involved. You could become a station volunteer, helping behind the microphone with presenting or producing a wide variety of shows or as part of the Friends of HCRfm, our fund-raising arm. Additionally you might manage or head an business that would consider sponsoring a programme or advertising on the station from just £2.50+VAT per slot.

"The station will also broadcast a wide range of specialist feature programmes. So if you need volunteers, or are holding a community event, or you would like us to focus on what you do in the community as a group, we have a weeknight show "Over To You' which you can take part in, as well as "Spotlight on Fridays' focusing on music, arts and events, and a new political show "County Matters' on Sundays. Also on Sundays is a new show for younger people "The Student Zone'" says Ray Godby, Head of Programmes and Operations. "We still need help behind the scenes so please do use the Get Involved page at our web site www.hcrfm.co.uk which has a simple drop down menu. You can also make contact this way if you wish to promote an event or appeal for volunteers" .

"We need to ensure we are fully accessible to all of the community, to help us achieve this we will be using the very latest technology. Once on air, messages and requests will be relayed to presenters through the website, email and texts" said Jon Hunt, Head of Marketing "Our Facebook (facebook.com/hcrfm) and Twitter pages (twitter.com/hcrfm) are updated regularly and have already attracted well over 500 followers".

The station will raise the money to be on air via advertising and sponsorship. You can easily donate any amount from as little as £1 by using the website. Friends of HCRfm, the fund raising arm of the station is a membership based group running various quizzes and events. Individuals can join as well as organisations and if you support the station this way you will get various benefits. If you wish to know more about Friends of HCRfm then email nicola.rule@hcrfm.co.uk or check the website for more details.

We have plenty of scope in volunteer roles as we need Broadcast Assistants, Producers, Reception people, actors for our own soap "Huntsford' and other drama projects. We also have a need for writers that are keen and committed to join a growing team. You can Get Involved via the website www.hcrfm.co.uk or email the Executive Producer David Brockman david.brockman@hcrfm.co.uk for details and to be passed on to the relevant team.

"At long last, with the old independent local radio stations becoming giants Hntingdon Community Radio is the only REALLY independent local community radio and we are keen to offer the widest possible local news and features."

Your Music. Your Voice. Your Station.
