HCR104fm's First Birthday draws near!
On 23rd April 2012 HCR104fm celebrates its first full year of transmission from its Studios in the flagship Saxongate Centre.
Station Manager Bill Hensley says ‘It is unbelievable how quickly this year has gone – we have achieved so much in such a short space of time and want to THANK all our Listeners, Advertisers and Sponsors for helping us achieve this milestone’
HCR104fm is a truly local station providing a platform for community and voluntary groups to promote their services, at no cost, via the primetime weekday 7pm show ‘Over to You’, which is dedicated to bringing local (and some national) charitable organisations into the studio telling listeners what is on offer and how they can also get involved with those groups, perhaps as Volunteers.
Having touched on the topic of Volunteers, HCR104fm is itself a Volunteer-led Organisation which could not function but for the dedication of their team of Presenters, Producers, Technicians, Soap-Stars, and so on - a wealth of people from 18 – 80!
In this difficult economic climate it is important that people realise Community Radio is funded as : 50% Grants and Sponsorship, matched by 50% Revenue Income. As the HCR104fm Advertising is such good value there is not a problem selling this but some assistance with Grants and Donations is always welcome so that the scales balance.
At the time of writing this article, a northern based Community Radio Station has failed, several more have closed, yet HCR104fm is going from strength to strength, gaining listeners on a daily basis and actively encouraging audience participation. So if you are ironing, or cleaning the car - with the radio on – ring in and get that dedication in to your loved ones: it makes all the difference.
A Station Manager's OPEN DAY will be coming along shortly so take the opportunity to meet some of the Presenters and behind the scenes personnel – keep your ears open, go along and say ‘hello’, and pick up your free Car Window Sticker.
Tune in now to Fm 104 – HCR104fm – your local Radio Station for the Huntingdon area. Some new shows in the schedule include Brief Encounters set in a railway station waiting room when Matt Rix talks to guests about 8 music choices and what they mean, and Ploski Glosy (Polish voices) a new one hour show on Wednesdays at 8pm.
