Mr Christmas - a new play

Mr Christmas by Matthew Rix

HCR104fm's first full length play will be broadcast today, Friday 30th December on the Spotlight arts, films, music and drama events show at 8pm. An online edition will later be posted to the station web site on the Huntsford page, so if you miss this special treat you will be able to "listen-again". The play is called Mr Christmas and has has been written and directed by Matthew Rix who is on the Huntsford team, and produced through the station's drama division Wavelength Productions.

Scott Andrews, who directs Huntsford and manages Wavelengths, has given this one-off play the go ahead and says of the play, "the continuing commitment we have to local acting and writing talent, and locally made quality drama, is something that raises the bar at HCR. With BBC local stations facing heavy cutbacks, community radio stations may be able to plug some of the gaps. We can also feed local talent into the wider national radio and TV media, when applicable"

Huntsford celebrated a small milestone this holiday season with its 100th episode going out on Christmas Day, and our plans to produce quality local story dramas for young children, written by Jon Mountfort, will happen early in 2012 when Scott commences casting and recording of the locally written and totally new concept Dorothea and Her Jeans, HCR's own take on the classic "Listen With Mother", attempting to get the younger ones to listen to Radio.

We hope you take the opportunity to listen to Mr Christmas on Spotlight this Friday, 30th December, or you make use of the "listen-again" facility. We would welcome your views, and if you would like to get involved in any way with our drama section, email scott.andrews@hcrfm.co.uk or leave him a message on 01480 414104.
