Hi I am Chris Gidman! Just over a year ago, interested in media and studying it at St Peter's in the 6th form, I put my name forward to join HCRFM. Oh boy, I never realised I would be launched on such an adventure, as here I am over a year later, having grown in experience, so now I am back with a more heavy producer workload, and a co-presenter on Spotlight, HCRFM's arts and events programme on Fridays at 8pm.

I have gained great media experience as a 6th form volunteer at HCRFM, but there are extra plusses, in that I have made a whole host of new like minded friends from other 6th forms, got to know our adult trainers and mentors fairly well, and have come into contact with all sorts of people from small charity groups to the local MP Jonathan Djanogly. Hey I have also talked on the radio about one of my favourite passions, film and cinema, including the Spiderman series, an absolute favourite of mine.

So here we are at HCRFM returning for another action packed 2007 programme season, and alongside me is a great group of other 6th form student colleagues, some like me returning, and others total newbies like I was a year ago. We all hope you enjoy all the HCRFM programmes, also streamed on the Internet this year. All the students are grateful for the support of our mentors, our HCRFM colleagues, our 6th form tutors and school headteachers, our parents, and to all of you listeners of HCRFM, many regulars and lot of new ones.

The other members of the student 6th form production teams, who work behind the scenes greeting guests, researching news and events to publicize, sometimes reading the local news and weather, presenting film reviews, which is what I do on Spotlight, and learning how to present music shows, doing album tracking through the night on occasions, under guidance, are:-

Nicholas Sarkissian from Sawtry College (returning), Jasmin Scanlon-Carling from Abbey College (returning), Abigail Collins and Rachel Pett from my own school St Peters here for the first time, as are George Lythe and Claire Morris from Abbey College, and Chelsey Clark from Impington Village College. We are given a lot of support by our mentors, including Nicola Rule, who is joining us for the first time this year, David Brockman our Executive Producer, and our big boss Bill Hensley, who keeps us students, along with David and Nicola in check! :-)

Three of our students, Abigail, Rachel and George are preparing Thought for the Week slots on our Sunday Supplement programme. This is a new departure, as this slot was always prepared by clerics and religious people, but HCRFM have asked younger people to have a go, and see what they can come up with.

Any Year 11 or Year 12 students in Huntingdonshire who would like to join some of us next year, yeah I am game for a third year - 2008, send me Chris Gidman and email and I will tell you more about it, and pass on your interest to the 6th form mentors and trainers.

Thanks for reading this, we all hope you enjoy the various shows on HCRFM, and if you are active in any voluntary group or you have an event coming up in the next few weeks you want us to promote on air, send me an email, and it will be forwarded to the various programmes. The picture on this page features most of our group taken at the HCRFM studios, only Nick and Claire were not able to be there.
