Soul and Motown – March 2019

Gabrielle – Under My Skin

This month on the Soul and Motown show we have been very busy with lots going on in and around Soul music firstly we were very pleased to welcome Gabrielle onto the show prior to her Under My Skin UK Tour. The interview is available via our listen again tab on our site and we were pleased to chat to her about her life in music, the new album and the upcoming tour. I was able to attend the show myself and hearing Gabrielle up close in a full but still feeling intimate setting was fantastic, the crowd were standing most of the evening while Gabrielle gave a complete back catalogue of hits from the early days of “Dreams” through to “Sunshine”, “Rise” and music from her new album “Under My Skin” She was on stage herself just under 2 hours but the quality never faltered.

Gabrielle’s team offered a pair of tickets for HCR104fm listeners for the show in Cambridge this past Tuesday. Congratulations to our winner Ann from Cambridge who was picked from our draw of correct answers.

Tickets are still available for the remaining dates before she concludes her tour in the Summer with an extended stint in Switzerland and UK Festivals

Marvin was going through differences and disagreements with Berry Gordy and Motown to which Marvin proclaimed “No more new Marvin Gaye music” as a result this album in the format it was intended never saw the light of day until now.

Marvin Gaye – You’re The Man

A Brand-New Marvin Gaye album landed on Friday (29th), the new album from Marvin titled “You’re the Man” is being released by UMC and Island records and is being released to coincide with what would have been Marvin’s 80th Birthday on April 2nd.

The album itself contains 17 tracks many of which have featured on anthologies and compilations over the years however thanks to some additional remastering and some tracks mixed by producer Saleem Remi (producing with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Nas, Fugees) to polish up some of the tracks that were in a raw or demo format to create a nice album for anyone to pick up!
