student zone
“Russell Bundy here, I will be presenting The Student Zone, a brand new programme from Huntingdon Community Radio (HCRfm). Firstly let me explain a bit about the Student Zone, telling you who is in the team and what we do. Later we tell you how students from year 10 and above, can get involved through joining the HCRfm student team.
The Student Zone is a new show targeted at the youth audience. Our presenters and producers will come together for the hour, so let us shine and talk to everyone through the radio; we are here to entertain you and to get useful ideas and tips across to you at the same time.
The Student Zone will have a range of topics each week, keeping you updated in subjects that our team feels are of interest or concern to younger people. We will play a variety of music, the sort that appeals to our age range, including the best of local youth bands from across Huntingdon. YOUR input is vital and there are plenty of ways to get in touch with us. Over to George now for a few words”.
“Hi George Gabriel here, I am the Student Zone Editor, making sure the content is slick, balanced and good to the ear, and that my team of reporters and presenters are kept on their toes, bringing younger people in the Huntingdon area the best news, music and features we can offer. We have a team of reporters with good knowledge of their subject areas. They will bring you latest news on what is hip with gadgets, the fab and the dud new film releases, the very latest in female and male fashion, make-up and hair trends, plus all the local sports action and a lot more!"
Our team of presenters and producers will get the information to you, and in the months leading up to Spring 2010 when HCRfm is due to launch from our Saxongate studios, we want your ideas. Please send suggestions to the presenters/producers listed on this page. Any one of them will look forward to hearing from you.
HCRfm provides students with an opportunity to learn about radio presentation and production. Isaac joined the Student team in 2008, and wanted to say in his own words how things moved on since arriving at HCRfm.
“Hello I’m Isaac Brindley, part of the Student team and co-presenter of Saturday Sport with Ray Godby. I would like to say, HCRfm is a great place to take experience from being in a radio environment. I have been at HCRfm now for a couple of years, and it has given me great experience of becoming more confident, on and around radio.
I started as a trainee on various programmes, reading out local news, and helping in the background welcoming people who came in for interviews. Having the chance to interview and co-present the Saturday sport show, boosted my confidence on air. It’s amazing from where little jobs and a local radio station can take you. It all leads on to something bigger and better.
Students from year 10 are considered, and some come from school/college or university, those already working and others seeking employment. Being part of HCRfm involves some effort and sharing of skills, but it is a great way to mix with others of all ages. The senior management team are all fully CRB (criminal records bureau) checked, as will soon all HCRfm volunteers 18 and over,” concludes Isaac.
Apart from learning new skills, and helping to create some great live radio, or working on our daily radio soap Huntsford, there is the added benefit this experience adds to your CV’s. All HCRfm Student volunteers may claim accreditation for their hours through Young Lives, and experience at HCRfm adds sparkle to any work, college or university application, for which HCRfm will provide references when required.
If you wish to join HCRfm’s Student Team, contact David Brockman, Executive Producer for an Application Pack. Places are limited to 12 at any one time, so you may have to join a short waiting list. However, if you are under 18 please make sure that you consult/inform your parents and/or guardian that you have approached HCRfm with a view to joining the student team.
You can follow the HCRfm Student group on the dedicated Facebook page and check out our films on YouTube.
