Slade Merry Xmas Everybody Listen Live

There’s so much more to your library than just books!

When did you last visit your local library? When your children were small? Or perhaps when you needed some local information?

Have you heard about all the things which happen in libraries these days? And …. there’s no need to whisper any more!

The face of libraries around the county are changing from somewhere that you simply borrow books to becoming a cultural hub for the community. Here in Huntingdon we are particularly fortunate to have many activities happening inside the library for all ages. Have you come across the EngAGE series of talks? These talks happen in most of the libraries across Cambridgeshire not just in Huntingdon, but we do seem to have more of them than most.

EngAGE is a partnership by Cambridgeshire Libraries and Community and Adult Services to develop new and useful opportunities for people over 50 years old. It offers:

  • monthly social and information events at local libraries
  • basic computer assistance for beginners provided by our Computer Buddies
  • new opportunities to volunteer and support your local library
  • meeting places for Knit and Natter knitting groups
  • venues for some exercise opportunities

Huntingdon’s EngAGE meets on the first Thursday of each month from1.30pm to 3pm inside the library and there’s always a cuppa on hand. It’s a great place to meet new friends listen to talks on varied topics. In October as part of National Libraries week celebrations, Rosie Veitch from the library service is chatting about ‘The 21st Century Library’ service and how it affects you. In November, Shirley Walsh, a Roman re-enactor and food expert takes a look at the history of the Roman Kitchen and December’s talk is given by Kate Hadley from the Free Ancient Treasures, Pictures and Catalogue Project. All these talks have limited spaces and therefore advance booking is essential but they are all free. Contact Library Staff or telephone 0345 045 5225 to book your place.
