Matts racing column

This week’s racing main attraction was coming from Newbury with the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes and the Group 2 Betfred Hungerford Stakes

The winner of the Geoffrey Freer was the favourite Defoe trained by Roger Varian and ridden by Andrea Atzeni the 13/8 favourite hit the front with a furlong to go. Even after drifting to the rails and interfering with the second Wall Of Fire he was still comfortably clear at the line winning by 3/4 of a length in the end and he is unbeaten this year and will progress and go in higher class races.

The Hungerford Cup, a special distance for the 7 furlongs experts, in which you normally see horses that don’t have the speed for 6 furlongs and the horses that don’t stay 1 mile meet. The favourite was Librisa Breeze unlucky in his last two races was the short price 6/4 favourite. But this went the was of Massaat at 12/1 who won by a length and ¾ and the favourite Librisa Breeze finishing second.

This weeks racing main attraction would be the York Ebor meeting a feature festival in the racing year that’s on for 4 days. My best bet for the whole week would have to be Enable dualOaks winner unbeaten in 4. She a fantastic filly who will win again.
