Matts racing column

This week in racing we had another guideline into the investec Oaks and Derby which takes place in two weeks time.

So it was the Dante meeting last week and a week filled with thrilling races throughout York 3 day meeting which started on Wednesday and the main race was the Musidora Stakes for the Fillies a prime trial for the Oaks. It was won by the red hot favourite Shutter Speed at 4/7 trained by John Gosden and ridden by Frankie Dettori, she won nicely by just under 2 lengths on ground which wasn’t her strong point. However she will not go for the Oaks instead head across the shores to France to run the French Oaks. They will run the other horse Enable in the race who won the Cheshire Oaks.

The Dante which took place on the Thursday in which 4 horses since 2004 have won the Dante, Derby double, and this year the Ante post favourite was Cracksman, however due to the heavy rain and the ground change to soft he was pulled out. So this left the race wide open therefore it went the way of Permian a 10/1 shot trained by Mark Johnston and Ridden by Franny Norton. Who was beaten by Cracksmans earlier on in the year, has a result of that Cracksman has been shorten to 4/1 favourite for the Derby.
