Dave Kewell
Born in Glasgow in 1964, Dave moved to the East Coast of Scotland and at the tender age of four moved to the North East of England. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1984 at the age of 20, and hasn't looked back since.
Dave got his taste for Radio whilst serving at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus in 1994, where he worked as a 'volunteer' presenter on BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) in his off-duty hours. His first show was presenting the "Late, Live and Local" slot between 9pm and 11pm every Tuesday evening, which lead to him being offered more and more 'fill in' work for the Network, ending up with him presenting the early morning breakfast show at weekends. He now has the dubious claim of having broadcast in the Northern and Southern hemispheres, Cyprus and the Falkland Islands, albeit to a captive audience of Armed Forces personnel, but what a critical audience he has had to entertain!
Dave's interests are a bit like his taste in music, eclectic! A passionate biker (he owns a Honda CBR1100), an ardent motorcycle fan (Valentino Rossi being his idol) to playing very competitive squash. His other interests (talents) include playing the Tenor Horn, and messing around with his 6 and 12 string guitars.
Married to his long suffering wife Ann, they have been married for 11 years.
What would be your idea of a perfect day?
Waking up to find that every day is sunny and warm (I hate the winter and being cold!) get the motorbike out of the garage and go for a "blast" with my friends. Stop somewhere on the coast for fish and chips and a big mug of tea. Have another "blast" on the motorbike and then take my wife out for dinner. Perfect!
What would be a nightmare day?
Finding out that my numbers had come up on the Lottery and I'd forgotten to buy a ticket!
What 3 words best sum you up?
Loyal, Loving, Trusting - I think I've just made myself sound like a Springer Spaniel!!!!
What makes you laugh?
Just about anything! I can't take things seriously and when I do it just makes me grumpy.
What is in your CD player at home at the moment?
The Black Eyed Peas album The E.N.D. My wife gave it to me for Christmas and I've played it to death.
What would you do if you didn't do radio?
I'd have to do all the jobs around the house that my wife has been asking me to do for ages!
What would you change about yourself if you could?
To be more tolerant of other peoples lack of consideration. Told you I was grumpy when I was serious!
What is your biggest fear?
Height, Heights Heights!!! I might be nearly 6' 4" but the very thought of climbing a ladder has my legs shaking like Elvis. Not funny, not natural and not doing it.
Did you grow up locally?
Everybody grows up locally, but my locally was Glasgow and a place called Peterlee in County Durham.
What do you love most about Huntingdonshire?
It's got everything, friendly people, great places to visit, countryside views and most importantly HCRfm. What else do you need?
