HCR’s first Charity of the Month is Hunts Shopmobility
Hunts Shopmobility is a scheme where mobility scooters and wheelchairs can be hired to make it easier for people with mobility difficulties to get around the town. You don’t have to be registered disabled to use this scheme. Anyone with mobility difficulties, where a mobility scooter or a wheelchair who help them to access the local shops, can use them.
Hunts Shopmobility, a small, self-funded charity, was established in 2006 when Huntingdon High Street was pedestrianised.
The office is conveniently located in the centre of Huntingdon in the Princes Street Car Park which is at the back of the Commemoration Hall. The opening hours are between 10am and 2pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Closed on Mondays and Bank Holidays.
Membership of the scheme is £7 per month for single membership. This allows free use of their equipment during their opening hours (there’s a small additional fee for overnight hire to members and occasional users) or £5 per hour for mobility scooter hire and £3 per hour for wheelchair hire for occasional users. Prices can change so please contact them via the telephone number or email provided below.
Hunts Shopmobility is more than a hire service though. They’re part of the local community and a lifeline to many who find them a great help to get out and about and be included and we all know how important that is to mental health and wellbeing.
If you or someone you know has limited mobility and would like more details about the services that Hunts Shopmobility offer or you would like to help them in any way, please contact them on: 01480 432793 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
