Local Success for Great British September Clean Up

Great British September Clean Up

Communities have come out in force to take part in the ‘Great British September Clean’, in
support of the rescheduled Great British Spring Clean by Keep Britain Tidy because of
coronavirus restrictions.

As well as community litter picks, an accompanying anti-litter campaign has been a huge
success, with volunteers take part from across all parts of the district, who together in nine events
have collected over 111 bags of litter.

Thank you to all that took part in the following event locations:
 St Ives
 Fenstanton
 St Neots
 Sawtry
 Hemingford Grey
 Hinchingbrooke Country Park
 Wistow
 Elton
 Houghton

Executive Councillor for Operations and Environment Marge Beuttell said: “Despite the
restrictions in place due to coronavirus, I am really pleased to see such a great turnout by
communities from across the district. Every little really does help in the fight against litter which is
so harmful to animals and our precious environment.”

Due to a high level of engagement we have also extended our Parks Poetry Challenge until
Monday 19 October, where poetry inspired by our parks and open spaces can be entered for a
chance to be displayed within our parks. We have had some wonderful entries so far and we
would love to see more.
