Shoot for Health

Huntingdonshire District Council’s Active Lifestyles Team is rolling out their brand new free fitness programme ‘Shoot for Health’. The course is designed to support inactive adults to live a healthier lifestyle and manage their weight effectively and safely. The initial 12-session programme utilises football as the means to help those involved get fitter and healthier by increasing activity and fitness levels.

Alongside this programme, participants will receive advice to help with maintaining a healthy lifestyle and managing weight loss sensibly and sustainably. The pilot course with 11 participants is currently running in St Neots and has been a huge success, designed for inactive adults (those who exercise for less than 30 minutes per week) with a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 25 to 45.

Executive Councillor for Resilience and Wellbeing, Cllr Simon Bywater, said: “After the successful pilot of this course in St Neots, it is great news that we can expand this free offer to other areas of the District, as always looking to do all we can to allow and encourage residents to improve their health and wellbeing.

“As well as finding new ways to open up opportunities for those people looking to get fitter and improve their physical health, the sessions as part of this course allow for interaction with others striving to reach the same goals and is a great boost for mental health.”

The course is free of charge to participants thanks to funding from the ‘Healthy You’ service. ‘Healthy You’ supports community-based programmes aimed at increasing physical activity and building community resilience particularly for people who are currently inactive.

The new sessions, as part of the wider rollout of the course following the successful pilot, will take place at One Leisure St Ives Outdoor on Tuesdays 5.00 – 6.00pm starting 08th June 2021 and One Leisure Ramsey on Thursdays 5.00 – 6.00pm starting 10th June 2021.
