Characters in one of the UK’s biggest soap operas, Coronation Street, will be seen dealing with life during the coronavirus pandemic when filming resumes, its producer has said.
But the crisis will not “dominate every single story”, Iain MacLeod promised. The ITV soap has suspended filming and is making plans to return when real-life restrictions start to be lifted.
MacLeod said he decided the virus “has to exist in our world”, but that the issue would be “handled with a light touch”. He did not say whether any characters would catch the virus, but its impact will be seen through things like hand-washing protocols and food outlets switching to takeaways.
