“Nell Gwynn” – Written by Jessica Swale, this is a comedy with a large cast and fantastic roles, so a great opportunity for both old and new members to take part in a fun and vibrant ensemble production.
Set in the second half of the 17th century, the play tells the true story of Nell Gwynn, who rose from from humble beginnings as an impoverished orange-seller to become a star of the London stage during the exciting period of restoration-era theatre and enjoyed a long-term relationship with King Charles II.
Described by The Guardian as “bawdy, playful and highly entertaining”, this play is a brilliant combination of history and comedy and captures a moment in time when British theatre – having recently reopened after having been closed for almost 20 years – was experiencing a resurgence of freedom and creativity.
The production will run from 22-25 November and rehearsals will begin in September.
