400 years ago the Mayflower sailed for America

Why is there a 17th Century ship sailing close to Huntingdon’s bus station?

Huntingdon’s Town Estates Services Team have been getting creative.  The team have built a 3D model of the famous Pilgrim Fathers get away ship, the Mayflower, which set sail from Plymouth in 1620 now celebrating the 400th anniversary of their adventure to the “new world”.  The journey took 5 weeks.  There were 102 passengers and around 30 crew members.

The Puritan Separatists (now known as Pilgrims) believed that the newly formed Church of England was beyond redemption due to its Roman Catholic past and decided that they wanted to find somewhere where they would be free to live and express themselves without church interference.

If you are close to the bus station, be sure to take a look at the amazing floral display which the Estates Team have created, it’s well worth the effort.
