The members of the St Peter’s church, Old Hurst, Parochial Church Council and supporters of the church organised a Flower Festival on 13th & 14th May 2017 raising funds to keep their ancient Grade 2* listed church building in good order. This beautiful church in the heart of the Cambridgeshire countryside is the centre of a tiny village which has just 270 parishioners. It is alive and well even though the congregation is also small but the atmosphere of welcome and peacefulness is tangible within the church.
The Flower Festival is a testament to the care which the PCC take of the church with its neat church yard and gravestone memorials. The 8 delightful floral displays depicted the theme of “Celebrating Childhood”. The attention to detail was quite amazing. Children’s books, games, music, trains, dolls house, toys, Teddy Bear’s picnic and a great depiction of the famous children’s classic “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” was exquisite.
There was no charge for entry to the wonderful display of floral extravaganza but donations to the Fabric Fund were much appreciated. On Sunday at 4.30pm ‘Songs of Praise Service’ with favourite and well-known hymns took place presided over by the Rector, Rev. Sue Simpson.
See pictures of the displays on in our Albums section of our HCR10fm facebook and on the website.
