Peter Rogers’ morning programme, Brunch ‘til Lunch went live to Godmanchester last week where on Thursday an army of volunteers from the local community, put together 171 Christmas Hampers for those unable to buy extra food items for the season.
Peter caught up with Phil Jones, from the Godmanchester foodbank who told him that they had been feeding those in need in the Huntingdon area for 8 years. 2019 is the seventh year that the organisation has provided the necessary vitals for families and singles.
Mike Grice, a Huntingdon District Councillor, was among the 140 + strong volunteers force who had responded to the foodbank’s social media call for help from the community to get the hampers completed in time for the Christmas season. It was Mike’s first time getting involved with the foodbank Christmas appeal to fill the hampers. He admitted that the exercise had opened his eyes to tremendous work which the foodbank and its volunteers do every week. Mike described to our listeners just what was work was involved in preparing the hampers for distribution.
Godmanchester foodbank serves our community from their base at Godmanchester Baptist church in East Chadley Lane every Monday and Thursday from 10am to 2pm
