Huntingdon in Bloom continued its winning streak on Friday 6th September 2024, when it was announced as the Anglia in Bloom 2024 Best Overall Winner for the second year running!
The campaign also won several other awards including:
- Best Large Town 2024, Gold Award
- Best Environmental Quality
- Best Display celebrating 60 years of Britain in Bloom
The judges praised Huntingdon for its exceptional efforts in improving the town’s environmental surroundings, noting the significant enhancements made to attract local flora and fauna. Highlights included the impressive recycling and reusing initiatives, particularly the use of green waste for composting and the numerous areas with bird boxes, bug hotels, mammal houses, and bat boxes, alongside a diverse range of flowers that attract wildlife. Special recognition was made of the Coneygear Park Biodiversity Improvements made by Huntingdon Town Council (HTC), funded by the Community Biodiversity Grant from Cambridge & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) via Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC). Huntingdon Town Council was again recognised for their innovative use of water and heat recycling, and solar harvesting to power battery vehicles and equipment, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability.
The Mayor of Huntingdon Cllr Karl Brockett joined members of the Huntingdon in Bloom committee and the Huntingdon Town Council Estates team to celebrate their achievement at the Anglia in Bloom awards ceremony, this year held in The Carnegie theatre in Thetford, Norfolk.
The Mayor of Huntingdon expressed his pride and gratitude, saying: “We are thrilled and deeply honoured by the recognition received at the Anglia in Bloom Awards.
