Huntingdon Town Council, in collaboration with BID Huntingdon First, are proud to present a new speaker system in the town centre.

Installed to create a welcoming atmosphere, the speaker system will enhance the ambience for those shopping in and visiting the High Street, encouraging footfall through positive engagement across the town centre.

The system is set to launch on Saturday 6th July 2024, to support the town’s ‘Once Upon a Time Day’. It is hoped that from there, the system will be used to mark events and dates across the calendar year, for example the forthcoming ‘Sunset Beats and Bites’ evenings during the summer months, the annual Halloween Trail, Armistice Services and during the festive period to support the Christmas Lights Switch On, Christmas Market and Christmas Saturdays during December.

Paul Sweeney, BID Town Centre Manager said “BID Huntingdon First are extremely proud of this new and engaging addition to our High Street, working with Huntingdon Town Council to deliver the project that will enhance the town centre at key points of the year. The atmosphere that music can provide is invaluable and will make things like Christmas shopping a much more wholesome experience! We can’t wait to test drive the speakers on our very own ‘Once Upon a Time in Huntingdon’ Family Fun Day with music broadcast around the town to captivate and entertain our visitors!”

Karl Brockett, Mayor of Huntingdon said “I am delighted that this system has been installed in our town centre to support the local economy, promoting an improved shopping and visiting experience. The event on 6th July is set to be a fantastic day and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the BID team to boost the ambience, regeneration and inclusivity along our High Street throughout the year.”

In addition to being used for atmosphere and promotion, the system can also support key safety messaging in the town centre. The speakers can act as a tool to communicate with the public, should there be a situation that requires it.

The speakers have been purchased via grant funding as a joint project between BID Huntingdon First and Huntingdon Town Council through the UK Shared Prosperity (Vibrant Communities) Fund.
