At the Council meeting last week (May 12th) a new mayor was elected to the post by this fellow councillors. Daryl Brown who was elected councillor for East Ward just a year ago became Mayor for 2016/17, he brings a wealth of experience of running large organisations to the post. Daryl who is also the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Magpas Helimedix has been with the charity since 2009. His interest in emergency medicine prompted him to become Lead Governor of the Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2011 a position he still holds. Councillor Jay Dyne was also elected as Deputy Mayor at the meeting.
Outgoing Mayor Councillor Bill Hensley who held the position for the last 3 years has set the new Mayor quite a task by setting the pace with his fundraising efforts. Bill, who is also the station manager of Huntingdon Community Radio, who together with his fundraising committee have raised over £10,000 for his charities over the past year. Each of his nominated charities received a cheque for just over £2,000. The Fundraising Committee were involved with the original play “Murder at the Meads” performed in the Old Court Room of the Huntingdon Town Hall by the Huntingdon Youth Theatre, Zumbathons, Quiz and Bingo Nights, a sponsored Walk over the O2 roof, outdoor bowls fun day and the Mayor’s own charity race and fun day at Jubilee Park and much more.
Well done to everyone who has been involved this year.
