COMMUNITY RADIO AWARDS 2017 – nominated in the Arts & Creative Category – ‘Huntsford’
Over 70 stations and more than 200 entries were made in the 16 categories of the Community Radio Awards this year. HCR104fm entered 8 submissions in different categories there was early disappointment for 7 of our entries but one made it through to the “nominations” stage of the competition. Our twice weekly ‘soap’ “Huntsford” was the programme which broke through.
Community Radio Awards founder, Martin Steers said: “The response this year has been amazing and I can tell you many of the judges have fed back that they have been blown away by the quality of many of the entries.”
HCR104fm’s re-launched soap drama is set in a small market town called Huntsford in the middle of the English countryside where the action is based around five community businesses. The drama is brought to life by a team of 30 volunteers ranging in age from 20 to 76 from all walks of life. The Huntsford team comprises: Sue Rodwell-Smith, the producer /director, recording engineers, script writers and 22 actors. All are new to both the medium and the genre and have learned quickly to produce material to the exacting schedule required by a radio soap. If experience is short, enthusiasm and commitment more than make up. A pop-up studio is erected each month at our Saxongate studios when eight episodes are recorded.
It was an amazing achievement for the Huntsford team to have been selected as finalists even though they didn’t win an award.
Well done Huntsford Team.
