New Mayor of Huntingdon elected for municipal year 2024-25

On Thursday 2nd May 2024, at the Annual Meeting of Huntingdon Town Council, Cllr Karl Brockett was elected as Mayor of Huntingdon for the municipal year 2024-25. Cllr Audrey McAdam was appointed as Deputy Mayor of Huntingdon for the municipal year 2024-25.

Cllr Karl Brockett has served as a Town Councillor since February 2022, and was appointed as Deputy Mayor of Huntingdon for 2023-24 to support former Mayor Cllr Phil Pearce. Outside of the Town Council, he serves as the chairperson of the Huntingdonshire Nostalgia group, a member of the Huntingdon Carnival organising committee, a member of the Magistrates association and a Freemason contributing to the community. He has also presented a show on Huntingdon Community Radio about local history and nostalgia.

Cllr Brockett said: “I’m delighted to have been elected as Mayor of Huntingdon for 2024-25. I’m incredibly passionate about celebrating the wonderful community we have here in Huntingdon and want to support as many local groups and organisations as I can.”

Cllr Audrey McAdam has served as a Town Councillor since October 2020, and has previously served as Deputy Mayor of Huntingdon for the mayoral year 2022-23. She is very active in the local community, volunteering at The Commemoration Hall, organising litter picks as part of Rubbish Rebels, and fundraising for local charities through her crafting activities.

Having raised £10,924.08 through his fundraising efforts in his Mayoral year, the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Phil Pearce presented cheques to his six charities, St John Ambulance (Huntingdon Branch), Royal British Legion (Huntingdon Branch), Fusion Family and Youth projects, Friends of Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Huntingdon Volunteer Centre, and an association of local primary school PTAs.

Former Mayor Cllr Pearce also announced the seven nominees of the 2024 Mayor of Huntingdon Community Shield. Deputy Lieutenant Chris Parkhouse DL presented the Shield to Luke Claxton, for his amazing fundraising efforts for cancer charities.

The chairs of the four standing committees were elected as:

  • Cllr Brian Luckham – Chair of Finance Committee
  • Cllr Amanda Norton – Chair of Leisure and Community Services Committee
  • Cllr David Landon Cole – Chair of Planning Committee
  • Cllr Jenny Taylor – Chair of Strategy & Corporate Plan Committee

The Cromwell Museum’s Curator, Stuart Orme, attended the meeting on behalf of the Cromwell Museum trustees, to make the annual payment of one peppercorn per annum to Huntingdon Town Council for the rent of the Cromwell Museum.

The new Mayor, Cllr Karl Brockett announced that he would be supported in his role by his wife Julie Brockett as the new Mayoress of Huntingdon. Dennis Smith was appointed as Macebearer, and Rev Jon Randall as the Mayor’s Chaplain. Sea Cadet Nathaniel Woodmore of TS Cromwell Sea Cadets was appointed as the Mayor’s Cadet. The new Mayor announced his Mayoral Charities for the 2024-25 year as Dreamdrops, Hunts Forum, Royal British Legion and Young Lives vs Cancer (Veronica Claxton Memorial Fund).
