Passionate About Community Radio

Each year HCR104fm has an annual dinner which incorporates our own internal awards to show the station’s appreciation of its volunteers and the amount of work they put into their shows. We are a very local community radio station broadcasting to the whole of Huntingdon, Godmanchester, the Stukeley’s, the Offords, St Ives, St Neots, the Paxton’s, Ramsey, Kimbolton and every other village in between.

We have been filling the local 104fm airwaves 24/7 since 2011 after being awarded a  licence in 2009 and then won a second 5 year licence in 2016 using our particular brand of music and speech. Our annual dinner is very much a celebration of what we do and this year over a hundred volunteers and their guests packed the Manchester Room of The George Hotel for an excellent roast turkey dinner.

The recipients of the Awards are a closely guarded secret so that a sense of anticipation is engendered in the room as the winners of each category are announced.

This year’s winners were:-

Advertisers of the Year – Kleanco

Sponsor of the Year – Ian’sTyres

David Brockman Student Award – Emily Jarvis

Emily joined the Student Zone team in August 2015 and took over as the group’s Chairman in August 2017.  Emily’s skill has increased over those 2 years and has included a very youth focused interview with our local MP Jonathan Djanogly last summer.

Bill Hensley Award – Sue Rodwell-Smith

Sue is the presenter of the Thursday HCRpm programme, Brief Encounters once a month and the director of the new Huntsford programme who was majorly responsible for the setting up and return of the soap to our airwaves.

“Extra Mile” Award – Pete Singleton

In addition to being the presenter of the Tuesday and Wednesday evening Drive Time programme, Pete was instrumental in setting up and administering our internal training programmes, being controller of our programme schedules making sure that there is always a presenter for every show and also delivering a rota for our MyTunes Sunday lunch time show.

Raydio Award – Mark Box

Mark has been with the station since the beginning and has had a hand in many programmes over the years.  At present he is the presenter for the Saturday Breakfast Show and the specialist Soul and Motown show on a Monday night.

Newcomer of the Year –  Norman Knapper

Norman started with HCR104 in March 2017 and after starting as a producer with Over to You mostly on a Tuesday night has now become the permanent presenter of Tuesday night’s programme.   He has regularly filled in for other presenters during his time with us when sickness or holidays have made holes in our schedules.

Specialist Show – Cory Blose

Cory joined HCR104 in January 2013 and began his radio career as a producer/presenter with County Matters but has moved on to present his own very popular specialist late night show on a Friday night “Rock into the Weekend”

Producer of the Year – Clare Middlehurst

Clare was encouraged to become the Over to You producer for her dad, Mike Middlehurst, who at that time was our Tuesday night presenter.  After Mike left she stayed on to produce the regular monthly feature ‘The Sky Tonight’.  Clare has volunteered with us since 2014.

Presenter of the Year – Alex Parnell

Alex is currently the presenter of “Over to You” on a Wednesday night and has also been a producer/presenter for Sunday’s County Matters since 2016. He has just recently taken over the responsibility of monitoring the station’s training programme from Pete Singleton.
