What a fantastic afternoon of Jazz & Blues on Sunday 2nd October in St Ives. The weather was kind and although there were occasional threatening clouds, the sun broke through and most of the 2 hours of Jazz music played on The Old Riverport Quayside was bathed in warm sunlight. There was a really festive atmosphere with a good sized crowd of all ages from toddlers who danced in time to the music, to great grandparents relaxing by the waterside to brilliant playing of the St Neots Big Band.
The 15 strong band of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and drums provided a delightful programme of modern jazz favourites which brought class and elegance to the riverbank. The addition of the smooth as silk voice of jazz singer, Katherine McLean, singing well known favourites such as Lullaby of Broadway and the Girl from Ipanema completed a wonderful outdoor musical treat for an autumn Sunday afternoon. It made me rather sad that I missed all the other free Jazz performances over the 4 days.
Well done St Ives Town Team!
