Our own Sue Rodwell Smith – who is the Director of our soap, the twice weekly serial, “Huntsford” was awarded a Bronze in the annual nationwide radio event which celebrates and recognises the achievements of volunteers in the community radio sector.
The Community Radio Awards were set up to celebrate community radio and all the hard work and time that the volunteers involved in community radio put into their stations, shows and communities. The awards are a judge led process, with judges drawn from the community radio sector, academics, other radio / associated areas and the 3rd sector. The awards are run not for profit, completely independent of any organisation or association and are adjudicated by a team of volunteers with experience of radio in all forms and sectors from Student, Community to the BBC and Commercial.
Sue’s award is the third in a series of success which HCR104fm personnel have out shone their rivals. This year Sue entered the “Sage Person of the Year” category which meant that they had to prove to the judges that her passion and energy had an impact on the station and that she is a positive example of a person, over 60, who is a role model for those at the station. Sue’s energy and enthusiasm is infectious. Not only does she direct the Huntsford programme, but you can hear her daily giving you “What’s On” and she also has a spot on the Over to You programmes with her “Writers Corner”.
Previous award winners for HCR104fm have been the ‘21st Century Women’ team who won a Silver Award our Saturday Sports Team who won a Bronze in the same year and Gold for Huntsford last year.
