Huntingdon Flipathon – Fun & Soggy Pancakes

Huntingdon Market Square was filled with cheers as local schools, community groups and town centre businesses braved the rain to participate in the annual Pancake Flipathon, organised by Huntingdon Town Council.

The annual Chain Gang race kicked off the event, with the Deputy Mayor of Huntingdon Cllr Karl Brockett, joined by the Deputy Mayoress Julie Brockett and the Mayor of Godmanchester, Cllr Alan Hooker. In a fantastic display of neighbourly values, they all crossed the finish line together, with Cllr Brockett bestowing the Golden Frying Pan to The Mayor of Godmanchester for the second year running.

Students from Spring Common Academy and Stukeley Meadows Primary School enthusiastically flipped their way around the course, before cheering loudly for the teams from the East Anglia Children’s Hospice (EACH) and British Heart Foundation charity shops, and the businesses taking part in the Retail Relay. The winning team of My Dentist and Huntingdon & Peterborough Federation of WIs crossed the line first, but the loudest cheer was for the Red Crayon, representing WH Smith. Winners coming in first and second place were awarded with medals and everyone who participated received a small chocolate egg.

Deputy Mayor of Huntingdon Cllr Karl Brockett said “I’m delighted that everyone was able to enjoy today’s flipathon, despite the weather. Our thanks to Tesco Huntingdon Extra for providing the pancakes for flipping and the chocolate eggs. I want to thank everyone who attended and cheered in the pouring rain. It’s a great community atmosphere and I want to congratulate all who took part”
